iOS/iPadOS 14 revealed in WWDC20 is expected for a public release by September end. So, a new feature is out now for those who don’t like Safari or Apple Mail can now allow third-party web browsers and email clients to become the default.

Google Chrome’s latest update available on Apple App Store for iPhone and iPad, you can change your default browser from Safari to Google Chrome.

Apple just added support for third party web browsers and email client apps in iOS/iPadOS 14, we may see more categories in the future.

Whenever you try to open up any link through an application the default web browser will be used. Earlier, you could use any browser like Google Chrome opened link would always open in Safari.

How to set Google Chrome as the default browser on the iPhone and iPad?

  • Download the latest version of Google Chrome from the App Store.
  • Open the Settings app
  • Look for Google Chrome and Open it.
  • Tap ‘Default Browser App’.
  • Tap ‘Chrome’.

Once you configure this in settings, whenever you try to open a link will now be opened to open Google Chrome, instead of Safari.

How to set Safari back as the default browser on the iPhone and iPad?

  • Open the Settings app
  • Look for Google Chrome and Open it.
  • Tap ‘Default Browser App’.
  • Tap ‘Safari’.

What about other browsers?

To use a different third-party browser other than Google Chrome, you need to wait for the respective developer to update their application for the same.

For changing default email apps?

As of now, we didn’t find any compatible email app to come with this feature, however the steps would remain same.

iOS 14 or iPadOS 14 is required to be installed on your iPhones and iPads to take advantage of this feature. Currently, iOS 14 is in the Developer Beta 8 stage and it is expected that Apple will release iOS/iPadOS 14 for all public users later in September, and this announcement could be a part of next week’s Apple Event.
