Govt Authorities Bans 47 Chinese Apps in India And Also Scanning As Many As 275 More Apps

The Government of India has banned 47 Chinese apps in the country. Although it been a month since 59 Chinese apps were banned and now the clones of the same apps are also banned which includes Tiktok Lite, Helo Lite, SHAREit Lite, BIGO LIVE Lite, and VFY Lite.

Reports also suggest that authorities are scanning 275 or more apps looking for potential user privacy violations and national security threats. 

These Lite apps are specially designed for developing countries that have slower internet speed. From the app size to the cache size, the system demand for the app is very low. This will ensure better performance and a better experience for the user.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said that the apps are banned because of safety reasons as they are prejudicial to the sovereignty, integrity, and defense of India.“The Ministry of Information Technology has received many complaints from various sources, including several reports about the misuse of some mobile apps available on Android and iOS platforms for stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers which have locations outside India,” the government had said in a statement on June 29.

The apps banned under section 69 of the Information Technology Act are among the most downloaded apps in the country’s list. Which has the highest share of Indian users base? Moreover, Chinese apps being used by millions of people in the country which indicates that nearly two-thirds of the smartphone users in the country have downloaded any of the Chinese apps banned mentioned by sources.
